Bed Sores ( Ulcer ) and its Dangerous

Bed sores is one of the dangerous symptoms can be result from different diseases, its common in elderly patients Ulcers develop at site of pressures in bed ridden patients that pressure result from patient weight on the bed with out any movement in the area with bone prominence leading to decreases blood supply to the skin on that area like sacrum, trochanter, scapula, etc... with moist skin or excessive dry skin make the area good place for bacteria grow. other caues Poor hygiene.
Ulcer may reach bones and joints when the infection is become more deep that can lead to bone death !!
The main factors of Bed Sores
1- Patient not move for long time at the same position
2- Nervous problem with lose of sensation
3- Vascular diseases with poor circulation
4- Bad nursing or family care of bed ridden patients
5- Sustain pressure
6- Friction or shear with moist skin surface
Complications of Bed Sores
1- Septic its one of the dangerous complications can lead to shock
2- Gas Gangrene ( rare )
3- Infection of skin
4- Amputation of the limb in progressive cases
Treatment
A- Prevent is better than cure
1- Bed : soft ,water and air mattress
2- Bed linen : clean, dry and smooth
3- Pressure area protect by air pillows
4- Regulation of bladder
5- repeated turning of patient with massage
B- Cure
1- Repented dressing with glycerine manesia to help slough separation
2 - Plastic repair of resulting defect
